Blackwood Doberman is committed to producing healthy well balanced dogs true to the standard with excellent temperaments. We are focused on preserving the history and purpose of this noble breed. We strive for optimum structure and temperament. Our guide is the American Kennel Club standard. Which state the Doberman is"...a dog of medium size, with a body that is square, compactly built, muscular and powerful, for great endurance and speed. Elegant in appearance, of proud carriage, reflecting great nobility and temperament. Energetic, watchful, determined, alert, fearless, loyal and obedient."

Our goal is to produce a dog that is not only beautiful and intelligent moreover able to work and perform the job the Doberman was originally created for, companionship and protection. To this end our dogs are bred for bone, substance and temperament.

At Blackwood Doberman our dogs are beloved family companions first, everthing else comes second. Our dogs are not defined by the "job" they perform instead they are defined by their place in our lives. We love to see our dogs in conformation ring as well as the obedience, agility and working arenas, if that is what they enjoy doing. Our dogs live free in our house not in crates. Our puppies are raised in our house, not kennels.  They are integrated in to our everyday life and exposed to “normal” household things.  They are raised with love and caring.  Our puppies get to be “puppies”.

We are very particular about where we place one of our puppies.  A Doberman is not right for everyone or every home for this reason we do not place our puppies with just anyone.  These dogs require love and boundaries in order to thrive.  They require exercise and the ability to run free.  We are committed to the dogs we breed for their entire life.  We offer our puppy owners support and help for the life of the dog.  If for any reason an owner cannot keep or wishes to place the puppy/dog they have with a third party, the dog must be returned to us.  This is NOT negotiable!
